Trying to do the Lord's work in your own strength is the most confusing,
exhausting, and tedious of all work. But when you are filled with the Holy

Vs. 14 “Samaria had received the word of God”

2. The Holy Spirit responses to only one sacrifice.
Vs. 18 “when Simon saw…the Holy Spirit was given, offered them
money”

3. How we treat others excites or grieves the Holy Spirit.
Vs. 23 “For I see that you are poisoned by bitterness and bound by
iniquity.”

“Sin grieves the Holy Spirit because sin hurts people and the Holy
Spirit loves people.” – Robert Morris

4. The Holy Spirit has the relationship answers you are looking for.

1. Evangelism is fruitless without the Holy Spirit.
Vs. 26 “He will testify of Me”

2. Earthly relationships are inferior to one with the Holy Spirit.
Vs. 7 “It is to your advantage that I go away:...if I depart, I will
send Him to you”
3. The Holy Spirit is the Mentor, Counselor, Guide, Teacher,
Friend, Healer, Enabler

Vs. 12-13 “I still have many things to say to you…However,
when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you in all
truth”
4. The Holy Spirit is the prophetic voice all believers need

John 14:15-18, 25-27
1. The Holy Spirit gives lifelong certainty of truth.
Vs. 16-17 “…that He may abide with you forever- the Spirit of truth…”
2. The Holy Spirit approaches us in the abandoned times of life.
Vs. 18 “I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you”.

The Spirit is here promised as One who would supply Christ's own
place in His absence. – Fausset & Brown

Ps. 23:5-6
3. The right knowledge at the right time is His mandate.
Vs. 26 “He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all
things that I said to you.”

“This is one reason the Gospels are so detailed and in such agreement
about the words of Christ. The Holy Spirit helped the disciples remember
everything Jesus said to them!” – Fausset & Brown

4. Only the Holy Spirit can produce the mind of Christ in you.
Vs. 26 “and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you”.

“To walk after the Spirit a believer must inhibit his mind from revolving
endlessly. If it turns too long around one topic, worries or grieves too much
over matters, and ponders too intensively to know God's will, it may become
unbearable and hamper its normal operation. The mind needs to be kept in a
steady and secure state.” – Watchman Nee

5. Without the Holy Spirit, peace cannot be permanent.
Vs. 27 “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you”

His names emulate (reflect) His attributes!
“In Hebrew thought, a name is a way of revealing someone’s very
identity and essence”
Jehovah-Sabaoth “The Lord of Hosts or The Lord of Armies”
2 Samuel 7:1-17
1. Consistently have an eye on how you can glorify Him.
Vs. 2 “See now, I dwell in a house of cedar, but the ark of God dwells
inside tent curtains.”
Matt. 8:10
2. The King’s heart desires servants in His kingdom.
Vs. 5 “Go and tell my servant”

“Everyone wants to serve until they get treated like a servant!”

3. God’s honors are far greater than material things.
Vs. 8-10 “Thus says the Lord of Hosts: I took you from the sheepfold…to
be ruler…And I have been with you…Moreover I will.”
4. The Lord of Hosts is also Abba Father (“Daddy”).
Vs. 14 “I will be his father, and he shall be my son”
5. Unfailing mercy is the order given by The Lord of Hosts.
Vs. 15-16 “But My mercy shall not depart from him…and your kingdom
shall be established forever”

Judges 6:17-24
Jehovah-Shalom, The Lord is Peace: “completeness (in number),
soundness, welfare, peace.”
1. Obeying what you know to do is the road to God’s peace.
Vs. 18 “Do not depart from here, I pray, until I come to You and bring
out my offering and set it before You.”
Ex 29:41-46
Mark 14:6-9
2. Faith is the only way to experience God’s peace.
Vs. 20 “The Angel of God said to him…And he did so.
Gen. 32:30
3. Peace is spoken over us in response to surrender.
Vs. 23 “Then the Lord said to him, ‘Peace be with you; do not fear, you
shall not die”
Compare and contrast Jer 29:11 & John 3:36
4. Christians should have physical representations of God’s peace.
Vs. 24 “So Gideon built an altar there to the LORD, and called it The-
LORD-Is-Peace. To this day it is still in Ophrah”
